Bushkill Falls - The 'Niagara of Pennsylvania’.  A series of spectacular waterfalls viewed via a trail system featuring over 1400 steps. shops, wildlife exhibit, mini-golf and paddle boats also on-site. Bushkill,

Dingman’s Falls - the trail along Dingmans Creek affords a beautiful view of falling waters plummeting through strands of hemlock and rhododendron. Off of Route 209 at Dingmans Ferry.

 

Dingman’s Ferry Bridge- the last privately owned toll bridge in Pennsylvania, constructed in 1900 where ferries once crossed the Delaware. 8 miles south of Milford Route 209 at Dingmans Ferry.  

 

KITTATINNY CANOES - rafting, canoeing, and camping on the Delaware River. Dingmans Ferry, 1-800 356 2852.

 

LAKE WALLENPAUPACK  - 14 miles long, 2 miles wide, with 52 miles of shoreline straddling the Wayne/Pike county line. Water skiing, boating, fishing, swimming, lake tours, public and private beaches. Fantastic view from Tafton Dike. Visitor's Center, Route 6, 1/2 mile north of junction with route 507. (570) 226-2141.

 

LEDGEDALE NATURAL AREA - a beautiful natural area maintained by PP&L, affording a splendid view of the inlet area of Lake Wallenpaupack.

 

MALIBU RANCH - a complete vacation getaway. nestled on 1,000 acres surrounded by state game land. Milford, 1-800-8MALIBU or (570) 296-2141.

 

MILFORD BEACH - on the Delaware river operated by the National Park Service. lifeguards on duty, comfort stations, picnic areas, and boat launch.

 

OLD SCHOCOPEE SCHOOLHOUSE - the last remaining one-room school in Pike County. Preserved by the Pike county Historical Society. Milford, (570) 296-8126.

PINCHOT INSTITUTE/GREY TOWERS/PINCHOT FALLS -a National Historic Site, the former home of America's first chief of USDA Forest Service, Gifford Pinchot, built in 1885-87 in the French chateauesque-style of architecture. Dedicated as the "Pinchot Institute for Conservation" in September of 1963 by President John F. Kennedy. Roaring waterfalls easily accessible at the estate. Milford, 296-6401.

POCONO ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION CENTER - nonprofit center for environmental and nature programs. 5 miles south of Dingmans Ferry on route 209. (570) 828-2319.

PP&L VISITORS CENTER - a covered audio-visual tour of the Wallenpaupack hydroelectric project, featuring lake history, the production of electricity, and recreation on the lake. Route 6 near junction of 590, Hawley. (570) 226-3702

RAYMODSKILL FALLS - provided early settlers with the water power needed for industries, including a cotton mill, saw mill, and tannery. 3 miles south of Milford off of Route 209.

ROEBLING BRIDGE/DELAWARE AQUEDUCT - spanning the Delaware river at Lackawaxen, this National Historic Landmark carried canal boats full of coal from the mines of the Lackawanna Valley east to New York City during the 1800Õs. Built by John s. Roebling, who later designed the Brooklyn Bridge, it was the first suspension bridge built in America, Lackawaxen,685-4871.

THUNDER SWAMP TRAIL SYSTEM - 30 miles system of rocky trails through wetlands, natural areas, and vistas. hikes from one to twenty miles access at two points along Old Bushkill Road off of Route 402.

WINONA FALLS - consisting of five falls and named for and Indian Princess. Legend tells that Princess Winona took her life by leaping from the cliff overlooking the falls when her tribe declared war on the tribe of the warrior she loved. - the prolific western novelist wrote many of his tales here from 1905-1918. STATE PARKS AND FORESTS

 

PROMISED LAND STATE PARK - 5, 800 acres, including two lakes: Promised Land Lake, 422 acres and Lower Lake, 173 acres. Recreational; opportunities include: camping for tents and trailers, camping for cabins, swimming, picnicking, fishing, hiking, bridle trails, hunting, wildlife, environmental education, boating and winter sports. Also within the park is BRUCE LAKE NATURAL AREA a 2,700+ acre natural site including two lakes, Bruce lake and Egypt Meadow Lake. Motorized vehicles not allowed in natural area; access to lakes via a 2.5 mile hike over Bruce Lake Road and a 0.5 mile hike over Egypt Meadow Road, respectively.

 

DELAWARE STATE FOREST - located in Carbon, Pike, and Monroe counties, the Delaware State Forest System is managed under a multiple use philosophy to produce crops of timber, protect watersheds and provide recreational opportunities for millions of people. Picnic areas have been established at Snow hill Dam and Pecks Pond. Also 80 miles of roads and trails within the forest are designated each winter for snowmobiling.

 

 

NATIONAL PARK SYSTEM 

 

DELAWARE WATER GAP NATIONAL RECREATIONAL AREA - a multi-use park that surrounds 40 miles of the Delaware River from Milford to the Delaware Water Gap. The river is designated a "Wild and Scenic River" which means it is un-damned and its streams, shoreline, and adjacent land are maintained in their natural state. The park is perfect for picnicking, canoeing, hiking, and several other outdoor activities. Dingman Falls Visitors Center, Dingmans Ferry,  (570) 828-7802.

 

G. W. CHILDS PARK - named for noted philanthropist, George W. Childs, this picturesque park is a part of the Delaware Water gap National Recreational area and includes expansive hemlock groves and cascading waterfalls along with a picnic area, comfort facilities, and a short hiking trail along the falls.
